Les Brazier
It is with the deepest regret that we report the sad passing of Les Brazier on Wednesday 6 October following a battle with Cancer. Les was the oldest surviving, elder statesman of the firm. He was educated at Southend High School for Boys and during the Second World War served in the Royal Air Force, being stationed among other places in India.
He married his sweetheart Vi and they had four children, Janet, Marilyn, John and Kate. Throughout their lives Les and Vi have been immensely proud of their children and grandchildren and all of their achievements.
Les became a partner at Rickards in the 1950s and was not only a Chartered Accountant but also a Chartered Tax Advisor and a founder member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association. Indeed throughout his time with the firm, Rickards was the major insolvency practice in the area and this department was headed by Les.
He retired from the firm in 1984. During retirement he and Vi lead an extremely active and community based life. They relocated to Coggeshall and while Vi held a number of senior positions in the Girl Guides, Les became National President of the Abbeyfield Society.
He was also a very proud and active Old Southendian, having been a President of the Old Southendian Association and was also President of the South Essex Society of Chartered Accountants and the Southend Business Luncheon Club.
Although he had been retired for 26 years, Les was still fondly remembered by many clients and his former partners and we extend our deep and sincere condolences to his family.
A memorial service will take place on 29 October at St Peters at Coggeshall from 11.00am.
