Budget date set for 24 March
The government has announced that the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, will present his budget speech on Wednesday, 24 March.
This will be the last budget of the current parliament, as a General Election must take place by June, but is widely expected to be called to coincide with local elections on May 6.
